Job Overview
Economy Polymers & Chemicals is currently hiring a safety-focused Dispatcher to support transportation and logistics operations at our chemical manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. This is a full-time, hourly position ideal for candidates with experience in dispatching, transportation logistics, and hazardous materials coordination.
As a Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and timely transportation of hazardous materials. You will work closely with drivers, warehouse personnel, internal teams, and customers to coordinate shipments while adhering to DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company regulations. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment.
Key Responsibilities

Schedule and dispatch drivers for hazardous material pickups and deliveries

Ensure all shipments meet DOT, OSHA, EPA, and regulatory compliance requirements

Review shipping documents including bills of lading, manifests, permits, and hazmat labels

Communicate clearly with drivers, warehouse staff, customers, and suppliers

Monitor routes, vehicle locations, and driver compliance using GPS and dispatch software

Adjust routes based on traffic, weather, road closures, and safety considerations

Act as the primary contact for emergency response coordination during transportation incidents

Verify drivers have required PPE, placards, safety equipment, and documentation

Track driver hours, inspections, maintenance needs, and shipment status

Maintain accurate dispatch logs, compliance records, and reports

Participate in safety meetings, audits, and required training sessions
Required Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or logistics certification preferred

Minimum 2 years of dispatch or transportation logistics experience, preferably in chemical or hazardous materials environments

Working knowledge of DOT regulations, hazardous materials classifications, and emergency response protocols

Proficiency in dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office

Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills

Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations

Flexible availability, including potential on-call responsibilities
Work Environment & Safety
This Dispatcher role is primarily office-based but requires occasional presence in warehouse, staging, or loading areas to verify load readiness and communicate directly with drivers or suppliers. The environment may involve exposure to chemical fumes, noise, temperature changes, and hazardous materials.
Strict compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards is mandatory. Employees must properly use PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection when required. Comprehensive safety training is provided to maintain a strong safety-first culture.
