Job Overview
UT Health Science Center is currently hiring a Clinical Lab Assistant for its on-site laboratory operations in San Antonio, Texas. This full-time role is ideal for professionals with experience in phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clinical laboratory support who are passionate about patient care and accuracy in laboratory services.
Under close supervision, the Clinical Lab Assistant supports pre-analytic laboratory functions, performs blood collection, processes specimens, assists with waived testing, and provides excellent service to patients and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Lab Assistant, your duties will include:

Performing venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect patient blood specimens

Receiving, labeling, and accessioning specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)

Preparing and aliquoting specimens according to laboratory protocols

Ensuring proper handling, storage, and transport of specimens

Conducting waived testing and maintaining accurate documentation
-
Monitoring and maintaining laboratory supply inventory

Assisting with laboratory equipment setup and preparation

Responding to client, provider, and patient inquiries professionally

Ensuring compliance with quality control, safety, and infection control standards

Maintaining a clean, organized laboratory environment

Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum 1 year of experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing within a clinical laboratory

Strong knowledge of specimen labeling, documentation, and transport procedures

Ability to verify patient information and specimen accuracy

Experience recording waived test results accurately
Preferred Skills

Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)

Strong communication and customer service skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
