Job Overview

ENGIE Saudi Arabia is seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to lead operational shift teams at its power generation and desalination facility in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations, maintaining optimal power and water export, and supporting continuous operational excellence.

This position requires strong leadership, decision-making abilities, and hands-on experience with modern power generation and water desalination technologies.


Key Responsibilities

Safety, Quality & Environment (HSE)

  • Lead and enforce the Safety Management System and Environmental Management System

  • Ensure full compliance with IMS, ISO standards, and ENGIE safety policies

  • Prepare and manage safety documentation as per JOMEL safety rules

  • Ensure proper implementation of the Permit to Work (PTW) system


Plant Operations

  • Lead shift operations to achieve plant performance targets

  • Ensure optimal export of power and desalinated water

  • Coordinate closely with operations and maintenance teams

  • Monitor plant equipment parameters to identify early signs of abnormal operation

  • Initiate corrective actions to prevent unplanned outages

  • Oversee chemical processes, water sampling, and quality control

  • Ensure environmental compliance and operational safety


People Management & Leadership

  • Maintain high standards of leadership, ethics, and professionalism

  • Establish and support training and development programs

  • Lead performance management by setting objectives and reviewing results

  • Promote a learning organization culture through lessons learned

  • Support succession planning for critical roles

  • Ensure effective vertical and horizontal communication within shift teams

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide technical training when required


Policies, Procedures & SOPs

  • Ensure all operations follow approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Communicate and train teams on updated procedures and instructions

  • Maintain full compliance with operational guidelines


Plant Defects, Maintenance & Planning

  • Raise and track work orders for plant defects

  • Coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities

  • Prepare safety isolation documentation for maintenance execution

  • Liaise with Senior Shift Engineer and maintenance teams


Coordination & Control Centers

  • Maintain strong coordination with:

    • Power Control Centers

    • Gas Control Centers

    • Sea Water & Water Control Centers

  • Support availability declarations and operational planning requirements


Decision-Making Authority

  • Operates under the guidance of the Senior Shift Engineer

  • Authorized to plan and manage assigned activities within defined boundaries

  • Escalates exceptional or non-routine issues for approval and guidance


Accountabilities

  • HSE compliance and audit performance

  • ISO standards compliance

  • Achievement of plant operational targets

  • Accuracy and quality of operational reporting


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • 3 to 15 years of experience in:

    • Power generation plants

    • Cogeneration or desalination facilities

  • Strong knowledge of plant operations, maintenance coordination, and safety systems

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills
