Job Overview

ENGIE Saudi Arabia is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support and optimize the Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) operations at the Jubail 3B Desalination Plant. This critical role focuses on process optimization, HSE compliance, WPA contractual performance, and KPI monitoring while supporting Operations, Maintenance, and Chemistry teams.

The Process Engineer will play a key role in ensuring plant reliability, efficiency, water quality compliance, and accurate performance reporting through PASS (Plant Availability & Settlement System).


Key Responsibilities

Process Operations & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor and analyze KPIs including TA, CA, recovery, flux, SPC (kWh/m³), SDI15, turbidity, pH, and chemical dosing

  • Perform daily and weekly trend analysis to identify performance deviations

  • Lead root-cause analysis for plant trips, pretreatment issues, and membrane fouling

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate CIP activities and post-CIP performance

  • Optimize pretreatment systems (coagulation, filtration, cartridge filters)

  • Perform RO membrane normalization and early fouling detection


WPA Compliance & Contractual Performance

  • Ensure full compliance with Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) requirements

  • Monitor water quality, SDI, turbidity, and contractual parameters

  • Participate in outage classification (Planned, Forced, NPE, FM/WTTCO)

  • Support monthly performance reporting to AJIWC/SWPC

  • Identify risks related to Liquidated Damages (LDs) and advise management


Invoicing & PASS Management

  • Prepare and validate monthly process inputs in PASS

  • Verify availability, outages, deemed production, and supporting evidence

  • Ensure PASS submissions strictly follow WPA formulas and timelines

  • Coordinate with Finance, Operations, and Maintenance teams


Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Ensure compliance with ENGIE HSE policies and Life-Saving Rules

  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and HSE audits

  • Ensure safe chemical handling, storage, and spill response

  • Maintain environmental discharge and regulatory compliance

  • Support incident investigations and promote a strong safety culture


Process Engineering & Technical Support

  • Review and update PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, and operating limits

  • Provide technical support during shutdowns, maintenance, and upgrades

  • Support budgeting and cost optimization for chemicals and consumables

  • Interface with vendors for membranes, chemicals, analyzers, pumps, and ERDs

  • Support commissioning and start-up of RO and pretreatment systems


Chemistry & Environmental Compliance

  • Maintain stable pretreatment, RO, and post-treatment chemistry

  • Optimize chemical dosing to reduce costs while ensuring compliance

  • Lead internal, environmental, and customer audits

  • Improve membrane life, water quality, and chemical efficiency


Reporting, Documentation & SOPs

  • Prepare monthly performance and compliance reports

  • Maintain logs, water quality records, environmental reports, and trend files

  • Document RCA, PASS evidence, and operational events

  • Develop, revise, and update SOPs and work instructions


Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Provide guidance and training to operators, chemists, and junior engineers

  • Lead performance discussions when delegated by the O&M Manager

  • Represent the plant in technical, vendor, and client meetings


Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Water Treatment Technology

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in SWRO desalination process engineering

  • Experience in RO plant start-up, commissioning, or troubleshooting preferred

  • Knowledge of WPA or similar contractual frameworks is an advantage

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical skills in RO performance and water chemistry

  • Excellent understanding of PFDs, P&IDs, and mass balance calculations

  • Strong HSE awareness with proven safety performance

  • Excellent reporting, documentation, and data analysis skills

  • Fluent in English (Arabic is an advantage)
